What is childhood obesity?
Obesity is nothing but extra fat in the body. Child obesity is nothing but obesity seen in the children. Children who have greater body mass index (BMI) are known to suffer from child obesity. Body stores a part of the food mainly fats after using the rest for the body metabolism. Fats are generally stored in the special cells called adipocytes. These fats are important for the body as they help in a process called thermogenesis that is production of heat. Body temperature is maintained with the help of this process. During starving when no other food sources are available these fats are burnt to derive energy. Body requires fats only to some extent. When more and more fat gets deposited in the body the weight of the person increases automatically and this is termed as obesity. Obesity is very dangerous and can lead to several severe health problems.

Childhood obesity grants are of different types. Few of them include nutritional value while some of them are related to the physical activity and sports for students. There are also grants are specially designed for medical fields. There are several other grants designed for other fields.
Grants related to nutrition: Children are more attracted to the unhealthy foods than the adults. These unhealthy foods mainly include chips, candies, French fries, aerated drinks, cola, burgers, pizzas and many more. Even parents do not mind this. All of them are nor aware of the ill effects of these foods. Saturated fats, highly refined carbohydrates, sodium and sugars are the main ingredients of these foods. And also they have very high calorific value. They are completely devoid of all the important nutrients that play essential roles in the metabolism of the body. These non nutritious foods are mainly responsible for obesity in the children. Therefore few grants mostly target on the food habits of the kid.
Grants related to physical activities: Another factor for the causal of childhood obesity is less physical activity. A survey has shown that 8 out of 10 kids spend most of the time playing games in their costly cum highly configured gadgets and personal computers. Very few are found to be interested in the outdoor sports. As a result calories are not burnt and most of the food that is consumed gets stored in the body making the kid obese. Hence few grants mostly target on issues like physical activity and sports for students.
