Most of the developing countries are worried about the sudden increase of the obesity rate among their people. Most surprising thing is that even children are getting affected by this obesity. One such country which is facing such crisis is New Zealand. Child Obesity in New Zealand is a major concern. It is one of the top countries in the world. But the saddest thing is that this country is also rated among the countries that have got highest obesity rate.

What is child obesity?

Child obesity is the obesity seen in kids or younger children. Obesity is the extra fat in the body. Children who have extra fat are known to suffer from child obesity. Because of the less physical activity and more food children are becoming obese day by day.

What is the reason for the sudden rise in the child obesity rate in the New Zealand?

New Zealand is one of the well developed countries which are not scarce in anything. There are very few people who starve in a country like New Zealand. Great economic power and technological advancement are dominating the practical nutritional knowledge among the people. All time busy New Zealanders find it easier to rely on the packaged foods and restaurant foods. These people are not aware that these foods are not good for the health. And the technical advancement leaves the people with very less physical work. Because of this the obesity rate has increased in this country.

Even the children are used to such life styles. A majority of the children survive on the fast foods instead of home cooked foods. These children have got used to eating fast-food and microwave dinners. Most of them survive on a diet of packaged, processed, and refined foods. These kids hardly know that even vegetables and fruits are edible. Even the parents are unaware that these foods contain lots of sugar, hydrogenated oils, and plenty more ingredients that are very complex in nature. These ingredients are rich in calories and the main culprits for making a person obese.

Another reason is the increase in the fast food chains in the country. These foods have no nourishing materials in them. They are only the baggage of calories. Saturated fats, highly refined carbohydrates, sodium and sugar build up the ft content in the body. Burgers and pizzas available at food centers like Mc Donald’s and other famous eateries are also rich in calories with no nutritious value. A single burger contains about 50 grams of fat and 2000 calories is sufficient to make a child obese. Children who are not aware of all these facts consume foods at such places.

With the availability of the school buses and personal vehicles has reduced the necessity of walking among these children. Gadgets and video games attract these kids and deviate them from the regular physical activities like sports and stuff. Because of this hardly any energy is spent and the consumed calories remain unspent. Because of this the child starts putting on weight.

How can this child obesity be prevented in New Zealand?

Child Obesity in New Zealand can be maintained by following a strict diet that does not include high calorie foods. All the packaged foods, processed and refined foods should not be the part of the diet. Meat products, processed foods, fast-foods, high sugar and high sodium foods are also a strict no-no. Whole grains, vegetables, fruits and legumes must be consumed by everyone including the kids. Fiber rich foods must be also preferred. Children should be taught the habit if eating less but at regular intervals. They should be restricted from diet cokes and other aerated drinks. These drinks have a very high level of sugar content in them which indicates that these are nothing but baggage of high amounts of calories.

Another most important thing is to inculcate the habit of exercising among the kids. These exercises help in controlling the weight of the kids. Some of the recommended exercises are Brisk walking, Swimming, Aerobic Dancing, Playing outdoor games, Jogging, Bicycling, Racquetball, Rock climbing. Even participating in sports is a good idea. This is one of the effective way for childhood obesity prevention.
