Fitness for Teens     

Physical activity and fitness makes you feel better. It makes your stronger and gives you more energy. It also helps you fight with depression, boredom or stress. It makes your more alert and at the same time makes your skin, hair, posture and muscle tone better. When you have a healthy body and clear mind, it improves your concentration and helps you with your grades. Fitness for teens is given due importance now days.

Working for fitness at an early stage is a lifelong investment. It is like developing a habit of staying active and fit. Kids who participate in fitness activities continue to stay active throughout their lives. Physical activity is suitable for kids of all ages. But research shows that fitness levels decrease in the age group of 13-18. This is due to the fact that teenagers have the choice of not participating in sports and also because of the fact that many other activities are available for teens. As a parent, you can be a role model to your child. If they see parents working towards healthy and active lifestyle, kids are motivated to do that as well.

Making exercise a part of your routine is not that difficult after all. It may be easier than you think. Exercising just 30 minutes a day is sufficient to stay healthy. If you want, you can break it into 10 minutes of workout, thrice a day. Make sure that your heart rate goes up and you sweat a little.

Eat a well balanced diet- Do not starve yourself. It needs nutrition and energy for day to day function and to stay healthy. Don’t stuff yourself during one meal and instead eat 5-6 small meals through out the day. And eat a well balanced diet full of nutrition and food groups. This includes carbohydrates, dairy products, fish or poultry, fruits and vegetables.

Stay active. Indulge in a sport that you like and enjoy. The idea is to move your muscles and at the same time keep you in good shape. Don’t drive small distance, instead walk. While talking over the phone, walk around.

Regular physical activity can prevent heart disease, diabetes and other medical problems down the road. At the same time, there are some immediate benefits as well.

Don’t be a couch potato. The usual tendency is to binge on a bad of chips while watching television or surfing net. It does not hurt if done occasionally but it is definitely not a good idea if done everyday for hours together. Just get up and get some fresh air. Also, do some stretches every now and then throughout the day.

Stay away from addictions. It could be smoking, alcohol or drugs. Be good to yourself and to your body and respect it. And if you are already into them, seek help. Surround yourself with supportive people and love yourself.

Male students are usually more likely than female students to play sports in the school or organizations affiliated with their school. It is required to promote girl students to participate in such activities as well.

Make the physical exercise a part of your daily life. Small change in your lifestyle such as taking stairs, walking or riding can help you stay fit. Engage in activities or sports that you enjoy and call your friends to join you. Everyone wants to stay fit and active.

Obese adolescents become obese adults. It is important to start the physical activity at an early stage in your life.

Kids who have chronic health conditions and disabilities should also not be excluded from fitness activities. Exercises can be adapted to the child’s disability. It is important to consult the child’s doctor for any physical activity.

When teenagers are participating in sports or individual activity, it is important to take care of the safety. Make sure that teenager wears safety helmet. Teach them to do stretching exercises before starting any strenuous exercise to prevent tears and strains. When playing outdoors, apply sunscreen, even on cloudy days. Trampolines cause many injuries in all age groups and hence must be avoided.

If your teen refuses to take part in any physical activity, there can be some underlying physical or psychological problem. Don’t ignore these signals and if required, consult your child’s doctor. Fitness for teens can be rewarding if started at an early stage.
