Causes of Obesity

Obesity has become a prime concern in every country. Its sudden increasing rate has shocked all the nations. The main culprit is guessed to be the unhealthy life style that people of the modern times prefer. There are also other causes for the abrupt increase in the obesity rate. All of these causes are discussed below.

The main causes of obesity are-

One main reason is because of overeating and less physical activity. Intake of high calorie foods like burgers, diet cokes, fried foods and no physical activities are the main culprits for the increase in the obesity rates through out the world. The modern life style leaves people with no time to have their grub. In a hurry, people have what ever they find on their way or just rely on the packed foods. The busy schedules spare no time for the exercises too. As a result, the intake of the calories becomes greater than the ones that are spent. This will finally result in the extra fat gain. If it is still not checked it may also lead to obesity.

Another reason for its causal is heredity. Most of the persons have a genetic make up that makes them obese in the long run. Basically, fat either gets deposited in the lower body regions like hips and butts or in the mid section. People having fat in their lower body parts will have a pear shaped body. And the others who have it in their mid sections will have an apple shaped body. People with apple shaped body are more likely to become obese. Either of the body shapes is solely because of your body genetics. If any one in your family line is obese then you are also more likely to become obese. Treating such hereditary conditions is very difficult.

Obesity may also occur because of the internal health problems. One such internal health problem is under active thyroid or hypothyroidism. Special chemical messengers are required by the body to perform all the metabolic activities. These special chemical messengers are termed as hormones that are produced and released by the endocrine glands situated at various locations in the body. Thyroid is the largest endocrine gland in the body that produces two types of hormones. These hormones are necessary in the process of burning the fatty acids in the body. They regulate and boost up this process.  The production of these hormones is in turn controlled by another hormone produced by the pituitary gland in the brain. Under active thyroid or hypothyroidism slows down the lipid metabolism in the body. As a result, fats are not readily burnt and are stored within the body. This will ultimately to obesity.

Other health problems like diabetes can also make a person obese.

Intake of only carbohydrates is also one of the obesity health risks. Carbohydrates are nothing but simple sugars. These sugars trigger the liver to produce more amounts of insulin. Insulin helps in the process of building the fat tissue in the body apart from urging the body cells to take up the glucose present in the blood. So, excess carbohydrates trigger in the excess production of the insulin. As a result more amounts of fat tissue gets deposited in the body.

Studies have shown that people who eat large single meals are more likely to become obese than their counterparts who eat less but frequent meals. Large meals increase the insulin content in the body. Because of this more and more fat gets deposited in the body.

People who have slow metabolic rate are also more likely to become obese. This is mostly seen in case of females. Females have less metabolic rate than males. Therefore, females become easily obese than males.

Few people put on weight because of the side effect of few medications. Mostly medications like antidepressants (medications used in treating depression), anti-convulsants (medications used in controlling seizures such as carbamazepine and valproate), diabetes medications (medications used in lowering blood sugar such as insulin, sulfonylureas and thiazolidinediones), certain hormones such as oral contraceptives and most corticosteroids such as Prednisone cause weight gain.

People who are physical disabled and who cannot perform physical activities at a higher rate also become obese.

The above are few of the causes of obesity.
