What is Obesity ?     

One word that causes mental depression in many of us is obesity. A majority of the people are found to be obese in today’s world. The prime reason for obesity is irregular life style. Yet there are many other reasons that cause obesity. Complete information about obesity is mentioned below.

What is obesity?

Our body needs every thing in only optimum levels. May it be food, energy produced in the body, hormone synthesis, enzyme production and almost everything. When anything is present in excess the normal functioning of the body is effected. Same is the case with our food intake. When we consume more food than that is required and take no pains to shed these extra calories all the extra food gets deposited in the body in the form of fat. This makes the person obese. Obesity is one of the reasons for being over weight. One can be overweight because of the presence of extra fat and also protein content.

People become obese when their metabolic rate is too low.

What are the causes of obesity?

Obesity is caused because of varied reasons. Few of them are mentioned below.

One main reason is because of overeating and less physical activity.

Another reason for its causal is heredity. Most of the persons have a genetic make up that makes them obese in the long run. Treating such hereditary conditions is very difficult.

Obesity may also occur because of the internal health problems. One such internal health problem is under active thyroid or hypothyroidism. In this case, the thyroid hormones that are needed for the body’s metabolism are produced in less quantity. As a result, the metabolic activity of the body falls and all the calories are stored in the form of fat in the body. This will ultimately to obesity.

Other health problems like diabetes can also make a person obese.

Intake of only carbohydrates also causes obesity. Carbohydrates are nothing but simple sugars. These sugars trigger the liver to produce more amounts of insulin. Insulin helps in the process of building the fat tissue in the body. So, excess carbohydrates lead to the deposition of fat in the body.

Apart from this there are many other reasons that cause obesity.

What effects does obesity has on one’s health?

Obesity is known to have a major effect on one’s health. It acts as a pathway to much obesity health problems. Few of them are mentioned below.

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Gout and gouty arthritis
  • Gallstones
  • Cancer
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke (cerebrovascular accident or CVA)

  • Type II (adult-onset diabetes)
  • Insulin Resistance

All the above conditions may occur because of the excess fat in your bodies.

How to get rid of obesity?

Obesity can be treated either by non surgical methods and surgical methods.

Non surgical methods- Non surgical methods of losing the fat content are a very slow process. These include taking weight loss pills, following a perfect diet, exercising, etc. Best way to get rid of the excess fat is to exercise. Few such exercises that help in getting rid of the fat are mentioned below.

Brisk walking- Brisk walking is considered to be the best exercise for women and aged people.

Swimming- Swimming helps in burning a large amount of fat in no time.

Aerobic Dancing- Aerobic dancing is fun oriented and also a very effective way to burn the fat. It can be done either at home with the help of aerobic videos that are available in the market or by joining an aerobic center.

Playing outdoor games- Playing outdoor games like golf, football can also help in burning the fat.

Jogging- Jogging everyday can also help in losing the fat.  

Bicycling- It is also a good kind of exercise to burn fat easily.

Racquetball: Very effective cardio exercise that burns about 800 calories in an hour.

Rock climbing: People who are interested in outdoor activities like rock climbing can burn fat apart from having fun.

Surgical methods- The extra fat in the body can be removed with the help of surgeries like lap band surgery and other surgeries.
